What offices are open for election in 2024?   

• One (1) Mayor - Two (2) year term begins January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2026
• Two (2) Councilmembers - Four (4) year terms begin January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2028.  

How do I become a candidate for City Council?

• City residents interested in running for City Council must file an Affidavit of Candidacy with the City Clerk's office during the official filing period.  
• Filing opens at 8:00 am on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 and ends at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
• You must be (1) Eligible to vote in Minnesota; (2) Be 21 years of age or more when assuming office; and (3) Maintained residence within the city limits of Grand Rapids 
  for at least 30 days before the general election.

What does the Mayor and Council do?

• Create policy and direct implementation
• Work with City staff to develop budget and set tax levy
• Review and approve capital improvement plans
• Approve employment with the City
• Conduct City business honoring the Mission, Value and Vision Statements adopted by the City of Grand Rapids City Council
