Itasca Calvary Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, is a city-operated, historic, and serene burial ground. Spanning several well-maintained acres, it features diverse headstones set against lush green lawns and peaceful pathways. The cemetery offers a respectful and contemplative atmosphere, serving as a meaningful connection to the area's local history.
The Itasca Cemetery Association was formed in March of 1896, and assumed care of Itasca Cemetery. Calvary Cemetery was originally owned by James McGlorick, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Duluth, MN. Both cemetery plat maps consisted of Divisions A, B, C, & D. In April of 1961, Grand Rapids Township assumed the care of Itasca Cemetery, expanding with the addition of Divisions E and G. After gaining ownership of Calvary Cemetery in 1975, the Township combined the two which then became known as Itasca Calvary Cemetery. Through Orderly Annexation in 2010, the City of Grand Rapids gained ownership of Itasca Calvary Cemetery.
