Police & Fire Department Escort

Public trust is established and maintained through fair, consistent delivery of government services. While the City of Grand Rapids is absolutely committed to building relationships with the community we serve, especially our youth, we are obligated to assess how we deliver services in a fair and consistent manner.

Upholding this standard while recognizing the great accomplishments of our area youth then becomes the balance for Grand Rapids Police and Fire Departments when considering escorting Grand Rapids youth teams to out of town events.

Assuming that resources are available, we are committed to providing Police and Fire escorts for high school teams traveling by bus to State Tournaments hosted by the Minnesota State High School League. We are willing, assuming resources are available, to escort the group from the departure school directly out of town. Please note emergency personnel will determine route based on many factors to include time of day, traffic congestion, size of escort, available resources, and the exit highway route.

If the team wishes to travel to other local sites, schools, or businesses prior to leaving town, the escort units will meet the bus at the final stop and the escort will begin from there. Prior to meeting with the emergency vehicle escort, the bus and any associated vehicles are expected to follow all standard traffic laws.

We ask that teams reach out to us as soon as possible so that appropriate arrangements can be made. Please submit escort requests by providing specific information HERE
