Animal Control

Animal Control Officer Holding a Puppy

The Grand Rapids Police Department Community Service Officer, Carl Fischer, performs a number of duties that don’t require a licensed peace officer to perform. These include:

  • Animal Control
  • Vehicle Unlocks
  • Blight Enforcement
  • Parking Enforcement
  • Front Counter Relief
  • Medical Emergency Response
  • Traffic Direction
  • Assisting Stranded Motorists

The Police Department operates the Grand Rapids Domestic Animal Control Facility which houses stray domestic cats and dogs until their owners can be found. If you are missing a pet from the Itasca County area, please contact Community Service Officer Carl Fischer.

The Department also maintains a database of pets within the city. Instead of driving to the police station and paying a fee for a license, we ask that you have your veterinarian supply us with your contact information and a description of your pet so that we can enter this information into the database. Please have your pet wear its rabies vaccination tag, with the imprinted number, as law enforcement personnel will use this number to query this countywide law enforcement database and reunite you and your pet.
