The Grand Rapids Police Department provides services to our residents 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Our police officers will continue to do so during the Coronavirus Pandemic.  In an effort to reduce the transmission of the virus, the City Hall and Police Station are temporarily closed. Our non-emergency telephone number is 218-326-3464. After hours and weekends this telephone will be answered by the Itasca County Sheriff’s Dispatcher who has radio contact with Grand Rapids Police Officers.  A police officer will return your telephone call. For less pressing matters, our e-mail address is police@cityofgrandrapidsmn.com.   As always, for emergencies, dial 9-1-1.    


How do I?

Obtain a copy of a Traffic Accident Report

  • Please phone the Police Department at 218-326-3464. A Records Technician will process your request. She will need to know as much as much of the following information as you have available at the time: Name of the person involved in the accident; date and approximate time of the accident, case file number if known, your e-mail address.  We will e-mail you a copy of the traffic accident report.

Obtain a copy of a Police Investigation Report

  • Please be aware that under Minnesota law information contained within a police report that documents an on-going criminal investigation is not available until after they are reviewed by the prosecutor.  Please phone the police department at 218-326-3464, Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM to request a copy of a releasable report. You will have to come to the police department and complete a request form before the report will be released. 

Obtain a Permit to Purchase a Firearm

  • Bring the completed application and your identification to the police station M-F 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM. Use the red phone in the city hall entryway to speak with a records technician who will take the form from you and make a photocopy of your identification. Once the background check is completed your permit card will be issued. 

Update P.O.R Information
  • If you are required to update your P.O.R. information and are on supervised probation, you should contact your probation agent. Do not come to the police station.

  • If you are not on supervised probation, you may update this information at the police station, but must first phone the police station at 218-326-3464 and make an appointment to do so.
