Get ready for deer hunting with non-fiction books and DVDs from Grand Rapids Area Library.  We have a collection of classic texts and new items to help you prepare.  Already a buckmaster?  Check out a good book to keep you company on-stand.  Nervous about taking a library book into the field?  Browse our Friends of the Library book store!  I prefer paperbacks – they fit easily into the front pocket of my hunting coat.  Good luck!

Special Interest Program for Deer Hunters

Understanding Chronic Wasting Disease.  Tuesday, October 29 at 6:00 pm

Michelle Carstensen, Wildlife Health Program Supervisor for the MN DNR, helps us better understand Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) as well as how the DNR is working to limit its spread. CWD, a fatal neurological disease that affects cervids—including white-tailed deer—is a concern, as there is currently no known cure.

About the Library of Congress Surplus Book Program:

The Library of Congress has available at all times, for donation to eligible organizations and institutions, surplus books which are not needed for the Library's own uses. Eligible organizations and institutions must be located in the United States and fall into one of the following categories:

Full-time, tax-supported or nonprofit educational institution: school, school system, college, university, museum, or public library.

Agency of local, state, or federal government.

Join ECFE teachers in the Story Circle for books, songs, finger plays, flannel board stories, and all other sorts of fun! Then move to the Community Room for a snack, a craft, and a time to play and visit.

Doing Good: Adults Mentoring Youth  Thursday, October 24 at 6:00 pm

Discover how you can build positive youth/adult relationships when you volunteer. Learn about the value of adults mentoring youth in our community, with a focus on local mentor programs.  Jan Derdowski and Courtney Johnson, from University of Minnesota Extension, will be here to share their expertise.

Custom Leather Bracelet Workshop.  Monday, October 28 at 6:00 pm

Create your own custom leather bracelet. An introduction to leatherwork in jewelry making will be provided by Minnesota artist Jen Anfinson in this hands-on workshop.  Learn about leather tools and techniques and create something unique! All materials will be provided. Please pre-register at the Reference Desk. Recommended for ages 13 and up.
