It’s a big week at the library! Minnesota author Allen Eskens will be visiting the library on Tuesday, October 1 at 6:00 p.m  Eskens is the author of five fiction novels based on the characters Joe Talbert,  Max Rupert, Boady Sanden, and Lila Nash. Two more novels are forthcoming. Prior to becoming a novelist he practiced criminal law for 25 years. He is the recipient of the Minnesota Book Award and has been a finalist for the Edgar Award. His books have been translated into 26 languages and his novel, “The Life We Bury”, is in development for a feature film. He will discuss his path to becoming a writer and his novels, and will read an excerpt. This program is funded in part or whole by a grant from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

“The Life We Bury”  College student Joe Talbert has the modest goal of completing a writing assignment for an English class. His task is to interview a stranger and write a brief biography of the person. With deadlines looming, Joe heads to a nearby nursing home to find a willing subject. There he meets Carl Iverson, and soon nothing in Joe's life is ever the same.

“The Guise of Another”   After being subpoenaed by a grand jury under suspicion of corruption, Minnesota detective Alexander Rupert attempts to salvage his career and reputation investigating the false identity of recent car accident victim.

“The Heavens May Fall”  Two friends take opposite sides of a murder investigation and trial, each convinced that he is right.

“The Deep Dark Descending”  A homicide detective hunts down his wife's killers while struggling between his thirst for revenge and a twinge of conscience forbidding him to take the law into his own hands.

“The Shadows We Hide”A young reporter investigating the murder of a man with the same name as him discovers the deceased to be a loathsome lowlife who may be his father. The sequel to “The Life We Bury”.

Monday, September 30.  At 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. it’s Book Time! Join ECFE teachers in the Story Circle for books, songs, finger plays, flannel board stories, and all other sorts of fun! Then move to the Community Room for a snack, a craft, and a time to play and visit.


Thursday, October 3, 6:00 p.m. Fall Gardening and Garlic Planting with Bonnie Siegford. Join Bonnie for a discussion on what to do with your vegetable gardens and flower beds this time of year and tips on planting garlic now for next summer’s crop.


Saturday, October 5. At 10:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. it’s Saturday Story Time! Join ECFE teachers in the Story Circle for books and songs, then move to the Community Room for a snack, a craft, and a time to play and visit. Families may earn one Baby Steps coupon for attending this Story Time.


Monday, October 14, 4:00 pm. Create a Comic Character Workshop. Appropriate for 5th graders and older. This class will teach different tools to help create a comic character and start a story.  Please pre-register at the reference desk.
