Calling all puzzle enthusiasts for a family-friendly jigsaw puzzle contest at the library! Form a team - and use ingenuity, teamwork, and strategy to complete a 500-piece puzzle for fun and prizes. Space is limited to ten groups. Don’t be the missing piece - sign up at the Reference Desk. Some assembly required.

Upcoming events at the Library

Book Time Monday, December 3 at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

It’s Book Time! Join ECFE teachers in the Story Circle for books, songs, finger plays, flannel board stories, and all other sorts of fun! Then move to the Community Room for a snack, a craft, and a time to play and visit.

Holiday Music with Zachary Scot Johnson Thursday, December 6 at 6:00 p.m.

You’ll hear both old and new holiday favorites performed on guitar, keyboard, violin, mandolin, banjo, ukulele, and more! Don’t miss this hour-long, family-friendly musical event that celebrates the spirit of the holiday season. This project is funded in part or in whole by a grant from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

Teen Anime Club. Friday, December7, from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.

 Watch anime; eat snacks!

Stop in the Teen Room any time to answer a question and enter the monthly drawing!

Lego Club  Tuesday, December 18 at 3:30 p.m.  

Are you a kid who likes to build? Join us for our next Lego Club! Lego Club is open to everybody! Lego creations are displayed in the Children’s Library between programs.  We supply the Legos, you supply the imagination!

Festive Felting with Susan Vann Tuesday, December 11 at 6:00 p.m.

Create a hand-felted art piece out of naturally dyed sheep’s wool with local fiber artist, Susan Vann. Fun for the whole family. Recommended for ages 6+. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited. Please register at the Reference Desk.

Wednesday Writing Group  Wednesday, December 19 from 5:00-7:00 p.m.    

Join the library’s writing group—the third Wednesday of each month. Writers of all genres and styles are welcome for discussion or simply to write. Space is limited. Recommended for ages 16 +

Passport Acceptance at Grand Rapids Area Library

Are you traveling this winter?


Current processing time is 4-6 weeks for routine service and 2-3 weeks for expedited service.   The passport book and card are both Real ID compliant and can be used fordomestic air travel.  A passport book is required for international air travel.  Learn more at www.travel.state.gov

Stop at the Reference Desk for application materials (we have renewal forms) and answers to passport questions.

Support your Library


Do you have a small collection you would be willing to display in the display case in the lobby?  We have recently had trains, toys, carved birds, fishing lures and a variety of other things.
