Helping Out @your Library

By Amy Dettmer, Assistant Library Director

There are two organizations that help support the library: Friends of the Library and the Library Foundation. The primary goal of the Foundation is to provide a convenient and effective channel through which donors can contribute to an endowment. The Foundation is having an event in the near future where they invite the public to join them in the lobby on June 18 from 11 am-1 pm for cookies and lemonade and to enter a drawing for a bee related basket of goodies. The Foundation pays for Saturday Story Time and much of the summer programming for children. They also contribute the funds for purchasing the books for Rapids Reads and program speakers for the event.

The Friends help support the library’s mission, and enhance the library’s resources and services. The Used Bookstore is a Friends initiative so if you have ever put money in the silver box in the know that that  money comes back to the Friends to help support the library. Recently, funds from the Friends purchased the awesome new book display and water fountain near the bathrooms. They hold an annual meeting each year in early summer where the membership gets a review of the year, officers are elected, and everyone enjoys a catered meal. The 2018 annual meeting was held last week. You can become a member of the Friends by contributing funds. Pick up a donation envelope in the library or Used Bookstore.

Both the Friends and the Foundation assist with the used book sale during Tall Timber Days, this year August 3, 4, and 5.
