Full Time Public Works Maintenance Worker I
 
The City of Grand Rapids is seeking an independent, responsible individual to work in the Public Works Department to perform a variety of duties in the construction and maintenance of the City roads, right-of-ways, parks, athletic fields, cemeteries, facilities and grounds.
Qualified candidates will have a High School diploma; experience in maintenance, public works, utilities, turf, tree or grounds maintenance preferred.  Ability to communicate effectively. Must be able to obtain Class A commercial driver’s license within six (6) months.  Department & organization specific training will be provided and must be completed within six (6) months of hire and ongoing basis.
On-call for weekend, holiday, and evening shifts as scheduled by the Public Works Superintendent, as operational necessity dictates; work independently with little to no supervision; work in adverse weather, near moving mechanical parts and high noise conditions for extended periods of time; regularly required to perform heavy manual tasks.  This is a union position with starting wage of $20.82 per hour and excellent benefits.
 
 
 
Full Time Public Works/Engineering Technician
 
The City of Grand Rapids is seeking a responsible individual to assist the engineering and public works departments in performing technical engineering work and apply the principles and practices of civil engineering.  
Qualified candidates will have an Associates/Technical degree with coursework in civil engineering, engineering technology or related filed and two years’ related experience. Municipal Engineering experience is desired. Valid Minnesota Driver’s license required; MnDOT construction certifications preferred.
Knowledge of principles and practices of civil engineering; safe and acceptable construction practices, OSHA standards and MnDOT specifications.  Ability to operate heavy equipment such as truck, loader and experience with mowers, trimmers, chainsaws are a few examples.  Work independently; work in adverse weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts and high noise conditions for extended periods of time.  This is a non-represented position with a wage range of $24.20 - $30.75 per hour and excellent benefits.
