420 N. POKEGAMA AVENUE

Audio@yourlibrary

By Amy Dettmer, Assistant Library Director

Happy Mother’s Day! To all the Mothers, have a great day!

When I was growing up there were only books on cassette tape to listen to. (I grew up in the era of film strips that had to be manually forwarded with the beep on the cassette tape. Remember those filmstrips?) It’s amazing how far audio formats have come. The library has 3 different audio formats to choose from: books on CD, Playaways, and Overdrive.  Books on CD come in cases with anywhere from 1-30 discs depending on the book. When you reach the end of a disc you swap it out of the CD player for the next disc. Books on CD check out for 4 weeks. Playaways are a small device in which you put a AAA battery and plug in standard earbuds/headphones to be able to hear the book. There is one book per player and they check out for 4 weeks. There are no discs to change out and you can adjust the volume and the speed of the narrator. Overdrive is the company that produces audiobooks for mobile devices. If you have a tablet or Smartphone you can get an app called Libby. The sweet thing about this format is you can decide the length of checkout. If you have a car with Bluetooth capability you can connect your device via Bluetooth to listen while in the car.  If you want to know more about these formats stop and see me at the reference desk and I can help you.

Fishing Poles

With fishing opener this weekend you might have fishing on the brain! The library has fishing poles and PFDs available for checkout. The checkout period is 3 days and the items can be taken anywhere you are going fishing or boating. Adult and children’s sizes of poles and PFDs are available.
