Upcoming Programs for Adults

Tai Chi  Thursday, December 7th at 6:00 P.M.

Presenter: Mike Clemens

Originally practiced in China as a martial art, Tai Chi has spread world-wide as an alternative way to exercise, relieve stress and improve mental focus. With December being a time of worry, stress and harried activity for many, this class encourages participants to give themselves an hour’s worth of calm  while learning about and bringing together movement, breathing and meditation. Wear comfortable clothes you can move in.

Lefse Making  Tuesday, December 12th at 6:00 P.M.

Learn about this Norwegian holiday favorite –a flat bread made with riced potatos, butter and flour.  Help roll out and bake the rounds on lefse griddles and sample the results. All ages welcome and families are encouraged to participate together, as is part of the lefse making tradition.  Try out the special tools including grooved rolling pins and long wooden turning sticks.  Supplies and equipment provided. Sons of Norway members bring their expertise to pass on the tradition and share favorite recipes.

Passport Services

Grand Rapids Area Library is marking two years as a Passport Acceptance Facility.  A Passport Acceptance Facility is a public sector office that is designated to accept passport applications on behalf of the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs.  Passport Acceptance Facilities complete the verification required for applicants applying for a passport on a DS-11, which includes all minor and first-time applicants.   The Library also has the DS-82 form for renewing a passport. Renewals are done through mail and sent in by the applicant.

Stop at the reference desk in the library for passport information.
